Getting the message across for one of Europe’s biggest political groups

The Socialists & Democrats Group, the second-largest political group in the European Parliament, sought to revamp its online presence to better reflect its principles of freedom, equality, and solidarity. WAAT was tasked with modernising their website to increase user engagement, enhance traffic, and clearly communicate their mission and activities.

The brief: Redesign to communicate better 

Redesign the website to create a modern, user-friendly experience that aligns with the Group’s values and improves overall site performance. Key objectives included updating the design, migrating data, and integrating new features to support enhanced communication.

Digital Solutions: UX upgrade and data migration

  1. UX redesign

    Initiated a comprehensive redesign of the website’s user experience, incorporating iterative feedback to ensure the final design met client expectations.

  2. SEO review

    Conducted a thorough SEO review to identify and address any issues impacting search engine visibility. Updated metadata, optimised on-page content, improved site speed, and implemented best practices to enhance overall search rankings and drive organic traffic.

  3. Data migration

    Managed the transition from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8, allowing content to be progressively integrated into the new site as it was developed.

  4. Newsletter integration

    Added Mailchimp integration to support a redesigned newsletter system, facilitating more effective communication with stakeholders.

Outcome

The redesigned website successfully positioned the S&D Group as a leading force in European politics, with a 382% increase in users, a 407% rise in new users, and a 67% boost in pageviews within the first six months. The modernised site not only attracted more visitors but also improved navigation, making it easier for users to access and engage with content.
