Biotechnology platform that primarily addresses industrial needs for chemical and material resources to supply societal demand. Based on the concept of integrated biorefineries, namely, the cascading recovery of valuable inorganic and organic chemicals and materials from untapped resources (e.g. biowaste, wastewater, side-products of industrial processes) before their final use for energy production or disposal.
